Career

Ayao Komatsu began his career in Formula 1 in 2003 when he joined British American Racing as a tire engineer. Over the years, he gained valuable experience and developed his skillsin various roles within the team. After two years at BAR, he moved to Renault in 2006, where he served as a performanceengineer during a time when the team achieved great success, including winning championships with driver Fernando Alonso.

In 2011, Komatsu became the race engineer for Vitaly Petrov, leading the team to a podium finish in their first race together. The following year, he worked with Romain Grosjean, and together they achieved several podium finishes. His expertise and dedication led him to be promoted to Chief Race Engineer in 2015​.

In 2016, Komatsu joined Haas F1 Team as Chief Race Engineer, contributing significantly to the team's early credibility in the sport. He played a vital role in managing trackside engineering activities and vehicle performance.
