Hakeem Olajuwon, born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1963, is widely regarded as one of the greatest centers in NBA history. He initially started playing soccer, which helped him develop agility and footwork that later benefited his basketball skills. At 17, he shifted his focus to basketball and quickly found success, moving to the U.S. to attend the University of Houston, where he played for the Houston Cougars. Olajuwon led his team to three Final Four appearances in the NCAA tournament, solidifying his status as a standout player.
