Henry competed in the Olympics twice (1992 and 1996) and won medals at the 1995 Pan American Games. He held several national and world records in powerlifting, including a raw deadlift of over 900 pounds and a squat without a suit of 948 pounds. He was often called the "World's Strongest Man" due to these feats.

In 1996, Henry transitioned to professional wrestling after being signed by WWE (then WWF). He was part of the "Nation of Domination" faction and adopted the "Sexual Chocolate" persona.
