This incident led to a falling out with his father, which prompted Piper to leave home at a young age and live in youth hostels.

During his teenage years, Piper took on odd jobs at local gyms to support himself. It was in these settings that he was introduced to professional wrestling. He began by running errands for wrestlers, and over time, became more involved in the wrestling world. Interestingly, Piper also learned to play the bagpipes during this period, although he often mentioned that he wasn't entirely sure how he picked up the skill.
